#2 Opening a 1984 Donruss Baseball Pack
Welcome to post number two. Those of you who read Tuesdays post were aware of my auction mistake with the 1974 Topps Football. Now we get to the other half of that win. Today I present a 1984 Donruss baseball pack.
This is one of my favorite Donruss sets. The pictures were crisp. The design was simple and there were tons of great players. My goal with this one was to get the card that has illuded me from this set: Card Number 249 Don Mattingly's rookie. I had the Fleer copy until I left for the army and my sister needed cigarette money (Note to younger collectors, DO NOT put all your best cards in one small box. People think it's small so you won't miss it). This was my chance to get some redemption. Some people say, "Why not just go buy the card?" My answer is I like the thrill of the chase. Every pack I open is a treasure hunt hoping to get that illusive card that will complete my set. Not to mention needing the wrapper which I may discuss in a later post. Without further ado, on with the break.
The first two cards I want to bring up are the Diamond Kings and Duke Snyder Puzzle pieces. Jack Clark is a great card. I always liked the Diamond King cards because of the great artwork. Not sure if I completed this puzzle. When I get to that box we will have to find out. Next comes the usual filler cards.
In a 15 card pack, you are bound to get some extras and I'm sure these are (maybe). I like the determination on Pete Filsons face. Not to mention I got six pitchers out of my first ten cards. I always thought the pitchers were the hardest to get. I love the wave on the card with the team in the middle. It was deffinitely a simpler time and the cards were not so busy.
I wonder who's next.
Bill Bucker is ok. I love the color on the back of the cards. The use of the full name is interesting and those career highlights. There is alot of information there. Now as for the Wade Boggs. That is a good pull. He was always a great player and the guys at school always wanted his cards. The final two cards are:
Do my eyes deceive me, Pete Rose and Nolan Ryan. Two of my all time greats. I used to be Nolan Ryan when I played video games. His fastball was dangerous. Pete Rose on the other hand was one from my real young days living in Ohio. Everyone talked about the great Charlie Hustle. He was amazing and I for one think the Hall of Fame was made for him but that is a debate for another time.
Needless to say, no Mattingly but a great pull anyway. I believe I made my money back on this pack
I hope you enjoyed this pull and I look forward to doing this again. If you have any advice or ideas to discuss. Drop me a note. Anyway, as for now, stay WIRED, INSPIRED and a Little Bit TIRED.

Ripping an '84 Donruss, we dont see that very often. And pulling a Ryan, nice!
