#8 Too Many Inserts (Opening 2026 Topps Heritage)

Image
Greeting Everyone. Today I want to talk about insert cards.        I recently opened one blaster box of eight packs and two of the 20 count packs of 2026 Topps Heritage. I have seen other articles on the subject of too many inserts but I wanted to post what I found. Chrome Don't get me wrong, I like inserts. I long to find all the inserts.   I like the way these chromes always look. It's a simple style that pops. Chrome Sparkle?!?!? I can honestly say these cards do not impress me. Aqua, Burgundy and Pink Sparkle? They sound like the names of my daughters My Little Ponies.  They are hard to scan and gloss is the worst thing to try and get signed. Chrome Refractor I do like the Chrome Refractor. I never figured out how they differ from the rainbow refractors but oh well. Who am I to judge. Clubhouse Collection Relics Another one I can get behind. It's simple and not flashy. Of course being Tarik Skubal is a plus. The Dark Side I really like these cards...

#7 What's In A Name (Autographs by Mail)

Image
What's in a name? That's the question I am posing today as I go through my autograph collection. When I was in college in 1992, I was introduced to the idea of sending cards to players to get signed. I was sceptical at first but decided "what the heck." Here is my experience over that 6 month time frame. First thing to remember is you might not get your cards back. There is always thet chance. I have had one send me note telling me how much he charges for an autograph. Second, there's the chance that they are stamped. These guys have amazing hand writting, so good that I can't tell if their signed or stamped. Then, you have Cal here who doesn't sign anything but does send you this card for your enjoyment. You have Jeff George who signs everything and send you a card with a printed message on the back. How about John Offerdahl, who signs but also sends out an amazing trifold religious track. Then you have the Ink Signers and the Bible verse sharers. All in ...

#6 Mail Day (Opening 1981 Golf)

Image
Mail Day The day of the week that all collectors love. That day that makes your significant other cringe. Today we are dealing about what I received Saturday. A pack of 1981 Donruss Pro Golf Stars. I collected 1981 Donruss Pro Golf as a kid. I didn't really follow golf but some girls I was friends with played. I did know the names (Chi Chi, Nicklaus, Trevino, Watson) but don't ask me to point them out in a lineup. That being said, I own 44 of the 66 cards in the set. The main reason I wanted this pack was for the wrapper. When I met my wife, I was at work and she decided to clean my office. She saw a paper back full of wrappers and another full of what she thought was T-shirt cardboards and assumed they were trash bags. You know where this is going. I am still trying to get a wrapper to put at the front of my sets. When this pack showed up I did get excited. I already own #13 Jack Nicklaus but could use a better copy. Let's talk about the bane of every card collector:   ...

#5 Silence is Golden (My first taste of tobacco cards)

Image
I AM A BIG FAN OF YARD SALES AND FLEA MARKETS!!! Much to the chagrin of my wife. Why?? You never know what treasures you might find. If I get the chance, I am going to stop if I see one. It was something my mom would do every weekend and I would ride with her. I guess you could say it is ingrained in me to have the urge. With that being said, I want to talk about my first experience with 80 year old tobacco cards. It was during an off day in the late 90's. My wife and I had stumbled across a yard sale out in the middle of nowhere in South Carolina. It had a lot of old items which jumped out at me so I had to stop. Needless to say as I looked, nothing stood out as a good buy. Then I saw this small box on the table. When I opened it, I got my first taste of card history. I didn't know much about strollers cigarettes but I did know silent movies. I had see some of their movies and knew who they were. Here I was looking at 23 cards from the Strollers Cigarette and a couple from th...
